What Would Zak Do

Music is an amazing thing, as a former DJ, its meant so much in my life. You hear a song anywhere and it can instantly bring you back to a specific moment where you can remember everything about that moment, the colors in the room, the smells of what food was around, the people you were with, and exactly what moves they were doing and so much more that you don’t even realize.. until you hear that song again. 

Spontaneous dance parties have become a regular thing in our house with my boys that usually starts with Disney music that works its way into upbeat fun pop songs then it ends with a song that was your anthem back in high school. 

Somehow the recent parties take us back to 2010 and the FIFA World Cup Album, Shakira’s Waka Waka (This time for Africa), we are a soccer family so I guess that’s where it came from but man is that song catchy, it’s got a wild beat and sounds where you can’t help but move your hips, and those hips don’t lie! It’s also an easy one for the kids to remember, at least the “Waka Waka Hey Hey” portion and makes them want to play it over and over so we listen in the car, or wherever we are to keep the fun going. 

We recently embarked on our first cruise as a family, and of course it was Disney. The excitement was high and it was a whirlwind of a trip with all planes trains and automobiles but we toughed it out to see the introduction party on the top deck, and the first few songs came on as you’d expect, some Disney stuff but as the party finished, none other than Waka Waka comes on and the crowd goes wild and my son was in complete shock, mouth wide open and you could tell it instantly made him feel like he was home at one of our dance parties, it was his song! 

I don’t think I’ve had so many tears of joy since I my wife walking down the aisle at our wedding.. that song, in that moment, set the stage for our trip and he had the experience of a lifetime 

So what would Zak do? Start that dance party, listen to that throwback song, enjoy those moments, this is what it’s all about
